Getting to Know You

I am in the process of getting to know a new congregation and a congregation is trying to get to know me, their new pastor.  More than once, I’ve had the song “Getting to know you,” from The King and I, in my head:

Getting to know you/Getting to know all about you…/Getting to feel free and easy/When I am with you/Getting to know what to say

How does this getting to know you process unfold between a pastor and a congregation?  Specifically, how does this happen in an urban church setting where people are so spread out?  These questions have led me to experiment with a blog.  I am photographing and reflecting on items in my church office that have significance for me.  In a couple of weeks I will change my focus to taking pictures around the church building.  I’m going to ask various people to take me around the church building as a way to learn more about the history and hopes of the congregation.  The blog address is www.overandaroundtherainbow.wordpress.com.
