 WDC CHURCHES WELCOME IMMIGRANTS

An often-repeated instruction in the first five books of the Bible is that God’s people should care for the “foreigner” or the “stranger” because God loves the stranger. God “loves the foreigners residing among you, giving them food and clothing. You shall also love the foreigner, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt” (Deuteronomy 10:18-19). Two immigrant families from Faith Mennonite Church, Newton, KS and First Mennonite Church of Christian, Moundridge, KS shared how their congregations have been lifelines for them at the recent “Citizens of God’s Kingdom” Reference Council, March 1-2. As one recent immigrant testified, “I had no God, no community, no job, no house, no money….Now I have God in my heart, a community of brothers and sisters, a job, a house and some money.” To learn more of the church being the church, contact Pastor Laura Neufeld, First Mennonite, at laura.k.neufeld@gmail.com or 620-345-8766 or Pastors Weldon and Florence Schloneger, Faith, at floschloneger@hotmail.com or 316-283-6370.

WDC SEEDS is a weekly communication for WDC churches announcing what’s new and good in Western District Conference. Please forward this to congregational members.  Pastors are invited to submit one paragraph summaries of kingdom initiatives that will encourage the networking of best practices across Western District Conference. WDC Seeds is also available at:  www.mennowdc.org.
