Actas De La Sesion De Delegado / Presupuesto Aprobado / Resultados De La Eleccion / Delegados Certificados

7/31/18 – Thanks to all who participated in WDC Annual Assembly last weekend, hosted at Tabor Mennonite Church, Eden Mennonite Church and Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church!  Over 180 people registered for assembly, and additional community members attended Friday evening worship and a Saturday evening concert with keynote speaker Bryan Moyer Suderman, a Bible teacher and songwriter/singer.  On Friday afternoon, Bryan led a ministers’ resourcing event on Scripture, Stranger, Neighbor: Encountering the “Other” in- and with – the Bible.  In worship on Friday evening and in several sessions on Saturday, Bryan led participants in “Reading the Bible with Jesus,” considering how Jesus interpreted scripture by exploring passages from each of the four gospels.  In the delegate meeting on Saturday, reports were presented by the conference minister, WDC’s four commissions (Church Planting, Resource, Ministerial Leadership and Stewardship) and Camp Mennoscah, and delegates approved the 2019 budget and affirmed the ballot of nominees for elected leadership positions in WDC.  Michael Danner, an associate executive director of Mennonite Church USA, spoke about the MC USA “Journey Forward” process, followed by table conversation about how this process can impact our congregations, conference and denomination.  The open-mic time included an announcement from the Bi-Conference (WDC & South Central Conference) Youth Ministry Committee about plans for a youth-leadership development initiative next year, and testimonies and expressions of solidarity related to immigrant concerns.  Also on Saturday, participants attended workshops and viewed displays by a variety of organizations, WDC Women in Mission hosted a lunch program, and Hispanic church members gathered during supper.  The weekend concluded with a worship service hosted by Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, attended by a number of local WDC congregations and other assembly participants. In this weekend, we have been blessed so that we may be a blessing in the world, as we follow Jesus together!  See also the T-Mail article at https://themennonite.org/daily-news/wdc-explores-jesus-scripture/?utm_source=TMail&utm_campaign=4e68b8cf81-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_07_30_01_09&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_710b2b7199-4e68b8cf81-96753905

SPEAKER / PREDICADOR

WDC ANNUAL ASSEMBLY SPEAKER:  BRYAN MOYER SUDERMAN

Itinerant Bible teacher and singer/songwriter, known especially for his “songs of faith for small and tall,” Bryan Moyer Suderman of Stouffville, Ontario, has spent the last 25 years finding creative ways to engage all ages in Scripture.  For five years he’s been working through each of the canonical Gospels, exploring how they portray Jesus as interpreter of Scripture in addressing the challenges and debates of the day. As a result of this study—now the focus of his master’s thesis and itinerant Bible teaching ministry—Bryan is finding that Jesus’ approach to Scripture has much to teach us. In fact, it has the potential to transform the way we relate to Scripture and to each other.

WORKSHOPS / TALLERES

A variety of workshops will be offered for youth and adults that speak to mind, body and spirit!

Centering Prayer – Nathan Koontz, Melanie Zuercher – Participants will be led into Centering Prayer.  Brief conversation about the experience will follow.

Praying with/through Art – Cathy Coon Bitikofer – Prayer and contemplation can involve our active, creative spirits, led by the active, creative Holy Spirit.  We’ll explore how being creatively engaged in visual arts can help focus on our interactions with God, and perhaps lead to growth and insight.  Participants need not consider themselves “artists”.  Simply be open to new ways to talk and listen to God. (Spanish language interpretation available.)

Detectives of Divinity – Carol Duerksen & friends – Discover what’s new in children’s faith formation curriculum as Detectives lead you on a journey of interviews with Moses, Rebekah, Jonah, Peter, Tabitha and more!  This 13-session series sprouted out of a weekend seminar that Bryan Moyer Suderman led at Tabor Mennonite Church last year.  “Detectives” was created by Carol Duerksen, Susan Nafziger, and Aaron Ratzlaff, and field-tested at Tabor Mennonite Church on Wednesday evenings this past winter.  It will be available online through WDC this fall, so come check it out.

Latino/Latina discussion with Bryan – Bryan Moyer Suderman – Discussion time for people from Hispanic Mennonite churches with Bryan. (For Spanish speakers only.)

Evangelism, encountering other religions, and the Gospel – Jerry Truex – As part of the Year of Evangelism, Bible scholar and member of Mennonite Church of the Servant, Jerry Truex offers an overview of what “good news” means in the broader, biblical context.  (Spanish language interpretation available.)

The WDC Historical Committee.  Why Bother? – Dale Schrag –  The WDC Resource Commission is in the process of re-starting/re-invigorating the work of the WDC Historical Committee.  Is that a good idea?  Why or why not?  The committee members have their own ideas about how to answer this question, but they are especially interested in your ideas.  This is your chance to help shape the direction/agenda of this committee.  Dale Schrag, a member of the newly-constituted committee, will serve as moderator of the conversation.   (Spanish language interpretation available.)

Stewardship in Community – Mitch Stutzman – Everence Stewardship Consultant Mitch Stutzman will lead us through the topic of stewardship which can be a hard enough subject for us to approach as individuals.  But how do we begin to extend that conversation to include others that are around us?  How do we frame our stewardship conversations with our families or with our faith communities?  Join this seminar to explore ways to create conversations to further your community’s stewardship journey.  Conversations centered around three principles of holistic Christian stewardship that push us beyond, “What is person X doing?  And what is person Y doing?” and begin to think rather about what are WE doing to further stewardship values in our community?  (Spanish language interpretation available.)

Journey Forward:  Renewed Commitments with MC USA – Michael Danner & Heidi Regier Kreider – Michael Danner, Associate Executive Director for Church Vitality and Engagement, Mennonite Church USA and Heidi Regier Kreider, WDC Conference Minister, will offer updates and invite conversation about our MC USA 2-year visioning process, “Journey Forward”, as Mennonite followers of Jesus in the 21st century.  (Spanish language interpretation available.)
