Today is Giving Tuesday!

This day of generosity was created in 2012 as a simple idea: To encourage people to do good. Since then, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. In a time when so much attention is given to what divides us, generosity brings people together across races, faiths, and political views. Grassroots generosity and community action are powerful forces for good, especially in turbulent times. Even in times of economic uncertainty, we each have a deep reserve of generosity, which we can use to make a difference–your time, your kindness, your skills, your voice are all things you can give in addition to charitable donations. WDC highlights Giving Tuesday as an invitation financial contributions to support WDC’s mission of empowering Anabaptist/Mennonite congregations to Witness and invite others to faith in Jesus Christ, Dwell in just and loving relationships, and Connect to God’s mission in the world. 

This is also an occasion to give thanks for the many different forms of generosity through which WDC and its congregations thrive:

  • God’s generous gifts of creation, new life shown through Jesus Christ, and abundant power of the Holy Spirit.
  • Generous congregations that offer safe space for worship and other gatherings, join with community members to advocate for justice, care for children and youth, share food with neighbors, welcome refugees and immigrants, and much more.
  • Generous financial support to WDC that provides staff and resources to equip pastors, nurture congregational faith formation, worship and witness, and support emerging churches and church-planting partnerships.
  • Generous gifts of time, wisdom and skills offered by those who serve as leaders, volunteers and participants in conference and congregational ministries. 
  • Generous institutional partners that promote education, camping, disaster relief, peace and justice, worship and faith resources, and denominational relationships that strengthen our faith and witness (See https://mennowdc.org/institutional-relationships/)

On Giving Tuesday, let’s join this generosity movement – not only for one day per year, but as a year-round lifestyle of gratitude and offering our gifts to God’s work in the world. Everyone has something to give, and every act of generosity counts.

¡Hoy es Giving Tuesday!

Este día de la generosidad se creó en 2012 como una idea simple: animar a las personas a hacer el bien. Desde entonces, esta idea se ha convertido en un movimiento global que inspira a millones de personas a dar, colaborar y celebrar la generosidad. En una época en la que se presta tanta atención a lo que nos divide, la generosidad une a las personas de todas las razas, religiones y puntos de vista políticos. La generosidad de base y la acción comunitaria son fuerzas poderosas para el bien, especialmente en tiempos turbulentos. Incluso en tiempos de incertidumbre económica, cada uno de nosotros tenemos una gran reserva de generosidad, que podemos usar para marcar la diferencia: su tiempo, su gentileza, sus habilidades, su voz son todas las cosas que puede dar además de las donaciones caritativas. WDC destaca Giving Tuesday [Martes para Donar] como una invitación a las contribuciones financieras para apoyar la misión de WDC de empoderar a las congregaciones anabautistas/menonitas para testificar e invitar a otros a la fe en Jesucristo, vivir en relaciones justas y amorosas y conectarse con la misión de Dios en el mundo.

Esta es también una ocasión para dar gracias por las diferentes formas de generosidad a través de las cuales prosperan WDC y sus congregaciones:

  • Los regalos generosos de la creación de Dios, la nueva vida mostrada a través de Jesucristo y el abundante poder del Espíritu Santo.
  • Las congregaciones generosas que ofrecen un espacio seguro para el culto y otras reuniones, se unen a los miembros de la comunidad para abogar por la justicia, cuidar a los niños y jóvenes, compartir alimentos con los vecinos, dar la bienvenida a refugiados e inmigrantes, y mucho más.
  • El generoso apoyo financiero a WDC que proporciona personal y recursos para equipar a los pastores, nutrir la formación en la fe de la congregación, la adoración y el testimonio, y apoyar las iglesias emergentes y las iniciativas conjuntas de plantación de iglesias.
  • Los dones generosos de tiempo, sabiduría y habilidades ofrecidos por aquellos que sirven como líderes, voluntarios y participantes en ministerios de la conferencias y congregaciones.
  • Los socios institucionales generosos que promueven la educación, campamentos, ayuda en casos de desastre, paz y justicia, adoración y recursos de fe, y relaciones denominacionales que fortalecen nuestra fe y testimonio (Ver https://mennowdc.org/institutional-relationships/)

En Giving Tuesday, unámonos a este movimiento de generosidad, no solo por un día al año, sino como un estilo de vida de gratitud durante todo el año y ofreciendo nuestros dones a la obra de Dios en el mundo. Todo el mundo tiene algo que dar y cada acto de generosidad cuenta.
