WDC Announcements

“Know Your Rights,” July 19: Mennonite Church of the Servant and Apostento Alto Mennonite Church are sponsoring a “Know Your Rights” workshop on Sunday, July 19, at 5:00 p.m. The focus of the workshop is to inform immigrants and their allies about the rights of immigrants when approached by ICE. The session will be led by Priscilla Orta-Wenner, staff attorney for Sunflower Community Action, and will be conducted in both English and Spanish. Mennonite Church of the Servant is located at the corner of 23rd & Woodland (note, not Woodlawn).

“Rising for Charleston,” July 17: Mennonite Church of the Servant and Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church invite you to participate in a “Rising for Charleston” rally on July 17 at 6:00 p.m. in Wichita to commemorate the one month anniversary of the black church slayings in Charleston. One of a number of similar events throughout the nation, the Wichita rally will take place at the Warren Plaza, 2nd & Mead, in Wichita’s Old Town district. Consistent with the recent Mennonite USA’s resolution calling for “Expressions of Lament and Hope” for the fatal shootings, the rally is sponsored nationally by Every Town for Gun Safety and locally by the Wichita Coalition Against Gun Violence.
