One of the ways that I recognize the Holy Spirit at work is when I begin to hear the same message repeated again and again. Again and again recently I have been reminded, we serve God together and we witness to the way of Christ together.

As Anabaptist followers of Jesus, this should come as no surprise.  But sometimes, we need to be reminded of the basics of our faith. We are not alone. The Holy Spirit is among us in community, giving us courage, wisdom, and love for those who are suffering now. As Christ’s siblings, we stand together, pray together, sing together, and witness to God’s love for everyone.

In addition, in a recent article, I was reminded that reaching out to others in our communities and working together is an important act of witness and power. Whether or not they are members of our congregations, we can work together when our values overlap. We can act together when we are concerned for our neighbors’ well-being. If we try to respond to every example of injustice or cruelty as single congregations, or as individuals, we will falter out of exhaustion or despair. Together we can link arms with our neighbors and find ourselves stronger together.

One of our WDC pastors, Jerrell Williams, who recently returned from Hope for the Future Conference in Goshen, IN, invites us into deeper commitment to one another. “I am reminded for the need of collaboration in justice work…I am reminded about the divine beauty of friendship and how that makes the work we do more meaningful. How do we fight for each other without knowing each other? How do we advocate for each other’s needs without breaking bread together? Let us never forget the importance of friendship and community as we work towards justice.” (Facebook, 3/2/25)

You are not alone. We are not alone. We are one in the Spirit as we seek the way of Christ together.

Juntos

Una de las formas en que reconozco al Espíritu Santo en acción es cuando empiezo a escuchar el mismo mensaje repetido una y otra vez. Una y otra vez, recientemente me lo han recordado que servimos a Dios juntos y damos testimonio del camino de Cristo juntos.

Como seguidores anabautistas de Jesús, esto no debería sorprendernos.  Pero a veces, necesitamos que se nos recuerden los fundamentos de nuestra fe. No estamos solos. El Espíritu Santo está entre nosotros en comunidad, dándonos valor, sabiduría y amor por los que están sufriendo ahora. Como hermanos de Cristo, nos mantenemos unidos, oramos juntos, cantamos juntos y damos testimonio del amor de Dios por todos.

Además, en un artículo reciente, me recordaron que tender la mano a otros en nuestras comunidades y trabajar juntos es un importante acto de testimonio y poder. Ya sea que sean o no miembros de nuestras congregaciones, podemos trabajar juntos cuando nuestros valores coinciden. Podemos actuar juntos cuando nos preocupamos por el bienestar de nuestro prójimo. Si tratamos de responder a cada ejemplo de injusticia o crueldad como congregaciones individuales, o como individuos, vacilaremos por agotamiento o desesperación. Juntos podemos unir nuestros brazos a los de nuestros vecinos y encontrarnos más fuertes juntos.

Uno de nuestros pastores de WDC, Jerrell Williams, quien recientemente regresó de la conferencia Hope for the Futureen Goshen, IN, nos invita a un compromiso más profundo entre nosotros. “Me recuerdan la necesidad de colaborar en el trabajo de justicia… Me recuerda la belleza divina de la amistad y cómo eso hace que el trabajo que hacemos tenga más sentido. ¿Cómo luchamos unos por otros sin conocernos? ¿Cómo abogamos por las necesidades de los demás sin partir el pan juntos? No estás solo. No estamos solos. Somos uno en el Espíritu mientras buscamos juntos el camino de Cristo.
