Bergthal Church‘s Items Live On
The Bergthal Mennonite Church in Pawnee Rock, KS, recently closed their doors due to dwindling numbers, ending a long history that began in 1875. In anticipation of the church building being razed this fall, many items from the church will find new homes. The communion table has gone to an area church. Hymnals will make their way to Austin Mennonite Church in Texas. Stained glass windows have been claimed by persons for whom they have sentimental meaning. Other items have been salvaged by the church people, or donated to the Re-Use It Center in McPherson, KS. Some windows and pews will be sold at auction. Gilberto Flores, WDC Associate Conference Minister, is working to connect newer churches in need of items with what Bergthal has to offer (wooden pulpit, folding chairs, wooden chairs, sound system equipment, round tables).
