CHURCH BOARD RETREAT
On Valentine’s weekend, the First Mennonite Church (Beatrice, NE) board and spouses drove up to the St. Benedict Center near Schulyer, Nebraska for an overnight retreat that we hold about every 3-4 years. There were eighteen of us, including Clarence and Amanda Rempel, who convened at the beautiful and peaceful center run by the monks who live across the road. Besides having a number of good laughs and eating some amazing food, Clarence helped us understand what makes for a good board meeting, how to empower our committee leaders, and to pray throughout our meeting times. We also spent a session reflecting on the past three years, and then also dreaming about the next three.
