JUBILEE

I attended Pastors Week at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Elkhart, Indiana (January 28 – 31). The vibrant worship, reconnecting with friends, and being back on the seminary campus renewed my soul. This year’s theme was “The Spirit of the Lord Is Upon Us: The immeasurable Dimensions of Jubilee” led by Kim Tan from Great Britain. He is a venture capitalist connecting business people in assisting the poor to create their own businesses. Kim Tan looked at the Old and New Testament concept of jubilee. For Tan wealth is not evil in itself. It is how we conduct our business and what we do with created wealth that becomes the important ethical questions. The Gospel calls us to find concrete ways of practicing the immeasurable dimensions of jubilee.
