New year, fresh start hasn’t felt very true at our house. New year, more of the same chaos and uncertainty from day to day feels more accurate. This is not easy and it seems to be the constant that I know others are experiencing as well.
Recently, David Boshart, President of Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary, spoke at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. He referenced the term gelassenheit. He admitted it is a hard term to define, but one definition he gave was relaxing into God. Other definitions include resting in God’s will, peace and calmness of mind; but the thought of relaxing into God has stuck with me. Even in the midst of uncertainty whatever it might be, can I project the boundless love of God into the center of my life and relax into God? It is such a peaceful thought. Trusting that God is sufficient to strengthen us in the midst of chaos, disagreement, uncertainty or whatever the case may be.
I have thought about this as it relates to life in our house, but it also relates to our congregations and our conference. Many churches are facing pastoral transition, there are budget needs, varying beliefs, and limited resources that leave us feeling uncertain in many ways. I invite us to find ways to relax into God, trusting God is sufficient to strengthen us and to help us move forward together in peace.
Let us move into the new year with the boundless love of God at the center of our lives, congregations, and conference.

Relajarse en Dios
Año nuevo, un nuevo comienzo no se ha sentido muy cierto en nuestra casa. Año nuevo, más del mismo caos e incertidumbre del día a día se siente más preciso. Esto no es fácil y parece ser lo constante que sé que otros también están experimentando.
Recientemente, David Boshart, Presidente del Seminario Bíblico Anabautista Menonita; habló en la Iglesia Menonita Alexanderwohl. Hizo referencia al término gelassenheit. Admitió que es un término difícil de definir, pero una definición que dio fue relajarse en Dios. Otras definiciones incluyen descansar en la voluntad de Dios, paz y calma mental; pero la idea de relajarse en Dios se ha quedado conmigo. Incluso en medio de la incertidumbre, sea lo que sea, ¿puedo proyectar el amor ilimitado de Dios en el centro de mi vida y relajarme en Dios? Es un pensamiento tan pacífico. Confiar en que Dios es suficiente para fortalecernos en medio del caos, el desacuerdo, la incertidumbre o cualquiera que sea el caso.
He pensado en esto en lo que se refiere a la vida en nuestra casa, pero también se relaciona con nuestras congregaciones y nuestra conferencia. Muchas iglesias se enfrentan a una transición pastoral, hay necesidades presupuestarias, diferentes creencias y recursos limitados que nos dejan sintiéndonos inseguros de muchas maneras. Los invito a encontrar maneras de relajarnos en Dios, confiar en Dios es suficiente para fortalecernos y ayudarnos a avanzar juntos en paz.
Pasemos al nuevo año con el amor ilimitado de Dios en el centro de nuestras vidas, congregaciones y conferencias.
