Vamos a la iglesia me decía mi abuela Angelica, para mi no era vamos a un edificio o a una reunión acostumbrada, lo que yo oía era vamos a la Casa de Dios y eso significaba para mi un lugar donde nos reuniremos con la gente/ familia de Dios, y esto lo digo por escuchar a todos llamarse hermano/hermana entonces para mi era una casa de familia a la que yo también pertenencia.

Mis memorias creciendo en la iglesia han sido gratas y de un lugar seguro para mí, mi familia y amigos; tal vez esa no es la experiencia de todos y quiero ser sensible a las diferentes experiencias que los lectores tengan acerca de la iglesia.

Para este articulo me di a la tarea de preguntar a un grupo diverso de personas que significaba la iglesia para ellos y realmente me di cuenta de que mi idea de iglesia cuando niña continúa siendo válida, Y confirmé que la gente valora el concento de iglesia no por el edificio o ubicación geográfica, pero por el grupo de personas con las que deciden compartir sus convicciones y caminar juntos.

Si es verdad que valoramos los santuarios de reunión también lo es que ya estos no siempre son los tradicionales y creo que no esta mal pues Jesús dijo” donde estén dos otres reunidos en mi nombre ahí estaré con ellos” Mateo 18:20

Cuando las personas nos acercan a la iglesia regularmente vamos en búsqueda de Dios y de una comunidad. ¿Pero que de aquellos que no llegan? ¿Estarán menos deseosos de conocer a Dios o de acompañamiento? o tal vez su relación con la iglesia como institución es turbulenta por diferentes motivos?

Cuando vemos la historia de la iglesia desde el libro de los Hechos hasta nuestro tiempo, podemos notar que la iglesia o Los llamados Afuera, nunca se refiere a un edificio, siempre se refiere a las personas. Hechos 2:46-47.

Creo que nos ayudaría el pensar que podemos ser la iglesia cuando nos conectamos con otros en diversas formas. Jesús lo enseño al caminar donde estaba la gente al moverse para llegar a ellos como lo hizo con Nicodemo. Aun después de la crucifixión y resurrección solo unos pocos fueron a la tumba haber lo que había pasado, pero Jesús se apareció en las casas, en el camino y hasta en los lugares de refugio.

La misión de la iglesia nunca se refirió a llenar edificios sino a proclamar las buenas nuevas de salvación cono fue el mandato de Jesús después de su resurrección en Mateo 28:19 y nos equipo desde mucho antes por eso podemos decir “El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí, Por cuanto me ha ungido para dar buenas nuevas a los pobres; Me ha enviado a sanar a los quebrantados de corazón; A pregonar libertad a los cautivos, Y vista a los ciegos; A poner en libertad a los oprimidos; A predicar el año agradable del Señor. Lucas 4:18-19

Agradezco la oportunidad de conocer y aprender de muchos que cada día se esfuerzan por que sus iglesias sean más que un lugar de reunión, que trabajan por que la comunidad de fe sea más que un tiempo a la semana para congregarse y practicar ritos eclesiásticos, que son intensionales al conectarse con las necesidades de su comunidad y abogar por los que están en la marginalidad, por adorar juntos a Dios y fortalecerse como familia en la fe. Pero también escucho a muchos que no sabemos por dónde empezar.

The Called-out Ones

“Let’s go to church” my grandmother Angelica said. For me, it was not going to a building or a usual meeting. What I heard was “let’s go to the House of God” and that meant for me, a place where we will meet with the people, God’s family. I say this by listening to everyone call themselves brother and sister. Then for me it was a family home to which I also belong.

My memories growing up in the church have been pleasant and safe for me, my family, and friends. Maybe that’s not everyone’s experience and I want to be sensitive to the different experiences’ readers have about the church.

For this article, I took on the task of asking a diverse group of people what the church meant to them and I really realized that my idea of church as a child continues to be valid. I confirmed that people value the concept of church, not because of the building or geographical location, but because of the group of people with whom they decide to share their convictions and walk together.

If it is true, that we value the meeting places, it is also true that these are not always the traditional ones and I think it is not bad because Jesus said “where two or three gathered in my name there I will be with them” Matthew 18:20

When people bring us to church regularly, we go in search of God and a community. But what about those who do not arrive? Will they be less eager to know God or to be accompanied? Or perhaps its relationship with the Church as an institution is turbulent for different reasons?

When we look at the history of the church from the book of Acts to our time, we can notice that the church, or The Called Outside, never refers to a building, it always refers to people.  Acts 2:46-47.

I think it would help to think that we can be the church when we connect with others in various ways. Jesus taught it by walking where the people were as he moved to reach them as He did with Nicodemus. Even after the crucifixion and resurrection only a few went to the tomb to find out what had happened, but Jesus appeared in the houses, on the road, and even in the places of refuge.

The mission of the church never referred to filling buildings, but to proclaiming the good news of salvation as was the commandment of Jesus after his resurrection in Matthew 28:19. We have been together long before so we can say “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to give good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and sight to the blind. To release the oppressed and to preach the pleasing year of the Lord.  Luke 4:18-19

I am grateful for the opportunity to meet and learn from the many who strive every day to make their churches more than a meeting place. Who work so that the faith community is more than a time a week to congregate and practice ecclesiastical rites. Who are intentional in connecting with the needs of their community and advocating for those who are marginalized. For worshipping God together and strengthening as a family in faith. But I also hear from many who don’t know where to start.
