According to thirdwaycafe.com, “In the 1500’s the early Anabaptists believed that each person should be able to read the Bible for him or herself (a radical idea for the time) and that the larger church community helped to interpret and figure out what God was saying to them.” As faithful Anabaptist communities, we continue the practice of reading the Bible and other texts about faith and life individually, yet turning to the gathered community to deepen our understanding and figure out what God is saying to us.
Herald Press is known for their books on reconciliation, community, discipleship, mission, spirituality, theology, and Mennonite life and faith. Reading and discussing these books with others is one way we can continue the early Anabaptist practice of listening for God in community.
The WDC Resource Library offers multiple copies of most recent Herald Press titles in the Book Bundles for Group Study program. We currently offer 52 titles including the brand new title from J. Nelson Kraybill–Stuck Together: The Hope of Christian Witness in a Polarized World, MCC’s Peaceful Practices, Finding our Way Forward: When the Children we Love Become Adults by Melanie Springer Mock and more.
So, who are these book bundles for? How should they be used? That’s up to you! Use these in your Sunday school class, midweek programming, small groups, family groups, book clubs, or just grab a friend to read and discuss with you! Any time or place when you wish you all had copies of the same book to study together.
