NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – The Everence Financial® office in Kansas is honoring Marvin Penner with a Journey Award, which recognizes Penner for his generosity in sharing his time, talents and financial resources to help others.
Created in 2001, the Journey Award is a way for Everence to highlight what people of faith are doing as stewards of their God-given gifts.
“Marvin has given of his finances, time, and energy from global focuses like Mennonite Central Committee to a more local focus with Circle of Hope through Peace Connections,” said Pastor Derrick Ramer of New Creation Fellowship Church (Newton, KS), the Western District Conference congregation where Marvin is a member.
Penner’s philosophy is, “Helping and bringing happiness to others will bring satisfaction to ourselves.” He added, “If we seek to serve others ahead of ourselves, we’ve got it right.”
Penner said he’s always tried to live within his means and save money consistently, because, “The ultimate goal for me is to be able to serve others.”
The award recipient has been involved with Circle of Hope and Peace Connections for more than five years. He appreciates Circle of Hope for offering ways to build relationships with and encourage families and individuals who could use some supportive counsel.
Journey Award recipients choose a charitable organization to receive an Everence donation, and Penner chose Circle of Hope/Peace Connections.
“We at Everence are happy to honor Marvin for the way his faith has motivated him to love his neighbors as himself,” said Mark Diller, Regional Director for Everence.
