Maps on the walls

After several years of drawing sad and disproportionate Bible maps on our youth room chalk board and receiving stares as blank as the white cinder block walls, a thought came to me. “Why not paint these walls with colorful Bible maps?” After all, blank white walls did not adequately represent our colorful youth group and my chalkboard maps certainly did no justice to ancient Israel. So the youth scoured their homes for leftover paint from bedroom projects and several weeks later we were making our walls come to life. Using the church projector to project the image, we outlined our maps and then in the weeks that followed we painted our new maps (and each other just a little bit). After the paint dried it was time to project the map back on the wall and label countries, cities and major landmarks. Reading about geography in the Bible helps one become familiar with places, but drawing it on the wall with a sharpie really makes it come to life.
