Agri-Urban

  • Agri-Urban was born in 1972 as a unique method of raising funds for the Western District Conference, Mennonite Church USA and Bethel College. From the beginning, the idea was uncomplicated and uncommonly good for everyone involved. Farmers and cattle feeders volunteer their labor, facilities and feed or pasture to fatten Agri-Urban cattle. Donations to the program from urbanites cover the cost of the cattle and the feed. Profits from the sale of the cattle go to the three institutions and are reinvested in the program.

  • Day on the Farm                                                                                                               Day-on-the-Farm will be held August 18, 10 am to 2 pm
The annual Agri-Urban Day-on-the-Farm held at the Duerksen/Knepp farm is designed to promote the relationship between rural and urban families and to help children from towns and cities connect with the rural upbringing of many of their parents and grandparents. Activities, which run from 10am to 3pm, include pig catching, goat milking, horseback riding, tractor wagon rides and a branding iron demonstration. A noon meal will be served for a donation. While the day is free, it is designed to also raise funds for Mennonite Agri-Urban which sponsors the event.
  • For more information or to donate to Agri-Urban contact the Western District Conference office at 316-283-6300 or PO Box 306, North Newton, KS 67117
  • New Project for Agri-Urban. Agri-Urban has just launched a new program that encourages grain farmers to participate in the organization by designating the income from an acre or more of cropland.. Urbanites will be asked to supply a portion of the costs of raising the crops. See more information in the Agri-Urban brochure.
